THE STORY OF HATHORN STUDIO
Not simply
where
we went.
What
we took
home.
Art rooted in the places we love and the people we experience them with.
A NOTE FROM KYLE HATHORN
Before the
art,
there was
travel.
Travel was one of the first things my wife and I shared. Before we were married, we had already visited more than fourteen countries together. From tropical coastlines to our honeymoon in the Maldives, some of our most meaningful moments have unfolded alongside water.
As our family grew, so did the meaning of those experiences. The places we had loved became places we hoped our children would one day discover. I wanted to find a way to hold onto that feeling, not just in photographs, but in something they could live with for years.
The idea that would become Hathorn Studio took on a new meaning when we planned our daughter’s first trip to the ocean. I wanted to create a sculpture that could bring a piece of that experience home. Something she might see on the wall years from now and remember not just the water, but what it felt like to be there together.
That is the reason behind the work. The movement of water and the way light travels through it are beautiful in their own right. But what interests me most is the connection between that beauty and our memories.
I’m building Hathorn Studio around the belief that art should carry something personal. A place. A moment. The people who made it matter.
Because some places stay with you forever.
